Health Wonk Review for May 5, 2016
The latest edition of Health Wonk Review is posted at Wright on Health and – in a nod to the latest presidential primary developments – host Brad Wright has dubbed this week’s compendium the Pivoting Towards the General Edition.
As Brad points out, the edition really is a “miscellany of health policy writing” and “moving away from the extreme themes and pivoting toward the general edition.” So no, HWR is not actually focused on the general election. (Apologies if our graphic misled you. There’s actually just one post that devotes much time to one of the presidential frontrunners – Anthony Wright’s suggestion for moving the country toward Single Payer.)
What is in this edition? Several posts examining the extremely hot topic of UnitedHealthcare’s exit from ACA’s marketplaces. Thanks to Brad for including Andrew Sprung’s post asking why some carriers thrive and others dive in the exchanges. (If you’re interested, you’ll also want to read Andrew’s follow-up.)
There are also a couple of ACA-centric posts – one discussing whether the law is affecting employers’ decisions on work hours – and a couple of posts that dig into the implications of proposed MACRA regulations. Also, two contributors weigh in on John Stossel’s opinions about a hospital stay.
If those don’t float your boat, you can still read posts about the opioid crisis … Zika virus … and more. It’s yet another great round-up.
By the way, I’d also highly recommend the Health Wonk Review on Air with HealthBlawg, featuring some of the folks you follow at Health Wonk Review. Catch it live next Tuesady at 1 p.m. Eastern.
See you next time – when Tinker Ready hosts HWR at Boston Health News on May 19.
